New Online/Offline CPDnow app now available in Google Play and iOS stores

Imagine having access to an online/offline application which is handcrafted to reflect the way your site works now. There is no need to change your approach to CPD and assessment because our app only works this way, we can still mirror your approach.

The app versions of our sites are developed in such a way that if the app detects there is an internet connection, then it will load the full site with all functions available including the ability to authenticate mentors before sign off inside the app itself.

If the app detects that there is no internet connection it will drop back to the off line version where the key items that it is agreed need to be accessible off line, remain accessible. It will be clear to the user they are in offline mode and a different type of authentication process will be enabled. As soon as the app detects that they are back online then all the content captured off line will automatically be added to the online site.

New Date for e-Assessment of Professional Practice workshops announced

A number of workshops took place over the central band of the UK last week. In addition to the Universities who attended, the workshops also prompted other Universities who were unable to attend to organise individual meetings. The company has therefore a busy schedule of meetings arranged for the New Year.

An additional workshop will also be held on Monday 23rd January 2017 between 1.00 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. at the Executive Suite, Oxford Brookes University. Lunch will be provided, the event is FREE and there are no restrictions on the numbers attending from each University.

Universities who attended the workshops last week fed back that they found it useful to discuss the key issues involved in transitioning from paper to electronic portfolios and discovering the way these had been addressed at Southampton; Bournemouth and Surrey Universities. All these sites have now moved from a pilot to a full implementation and there are now over 11,500 active users at Southampton University.

The focus of the sessions was and will be on;

  • Enhancing the user experience
  • Accessing the sites
  • Institutional Benefits
  • Project Implementation

It was apparent that a number of Universities consider that revalidation provides an ideal opportunity to make this transition from paper to electronic portfolios.

If you want to book a place(s) at the workshop or arrange an individual meeting please contact our Customer Services Director Chris Peat by email chris@axia.email or phone him on 07771 996620.

We create our first online/offline Android and iPhone applications

Members of the Society and College of Radiographers are enjoying the fact that they are able to download an Android version of CPD Now from the Google Play Store and the iPhone version is now available in the Apple App Store.

This means that members will be able to create and update CPD plans and records even when they are offline. As soon as they are back online whatever changes they have made to their CPD Plans and Records will be automatically synchronised with their online record.

axia_digital_web_graphic_09The Android version of the Application has been available for a few weeks and already over 200 members have signed up to use it. We expect a similar demand for the Apple version.

Crucially the way we have developed the application and the changes that we have made to our core NOW.net platform means that it is possible to create online/offline applications for each of our sites.  We are therefore able maintain our offer to existing and new customers that their sites are handcrafted to their specific requirements. You do not need to change what you do, to fit in with the way our online/offline application works.

Dates for e-Assessment of Professional Practice workshops announced

We have been involved in the introduction of electronic assessment at three Universities (Southampton; Bournemouth and Surrey) and all our sites have successfully moved from pilot to full scale implementation. All the projects like the sites themselves have been very different and we have gained a real insight into how to manage the transition from paper to electronic portfolios that we are happy to share with those who are considering making this transition.

We are therefore holding a series of workshops across the country where we will share our knowledge and experience. They will be held over a lunchtime (12 noon to 14.00) and designed to allow the maximum amount of time for discussion and questions. It will not be a sales presentation although inevitably we will talk about our NOW.net platform but only in relation to how it has been used.

The workshops will be held on the following dates and venues;

  • Tuesday 29th November; Aberdare Hall, Cardiff University
  • Wednesday 30th November; The Athenaeum. Bury St. Edmunds
  • Thursday 1st December; The Executive Suite, Oxford Brookes University

Lunch will be provided, the event is FREE and there are no restrictions on the numbers attending from each University. If you want to book a place(s) please contact our Customer Services Director Chris Peat by email chris@axia.email or phone him on 07771 996620. He will then confirm your place and send you more details about the event.

How to Implement e-Assessment of Professional Practice

The article that appeared in the Nursing Times provides clear guidance on how to fully digitise the assessment of professional practice across a whole Health Sciences faculty. All students on the nursing, midwifery and allied health professional courses at the University of Southampton now use an e-Assessment of Professional Practice (eAoPP) tool.

If you want to know how they did it there is no better way to find out than to read the article appeared in the Nursing Times in 2015 and was written by the Project Managers, Pauline Morgan and Chloe Dyer.

The article shows that some of the potential barriers to adoption of such a system like access to computers and the internet were over stated. The site has been introduced without any need to supply computers or other devices.

The authors summarised the key success factors as follows;

  • Stakeholders involvement
  • Starting small and phased roll out
  • Involvement of trust practice educators
  • Student /staff education and dissemination
  • Building capacity
  • Just-in-time support
  • Responding to feedback
  • Collaborative working with contractor
