We are at the NET conference in Cambridge

The NET conference draws together nurses from across the world and we are delighted to again be exhibiting at the event.

We have had the opportunity to speak to delegates from Universities in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK and it is apparent there is a growing interest in the online assessment of professional practice. It is therefore great that we have been able to talk about the successful introduction of our online system at the Universities of Southampton, Bournemouth and Surrey. Delegates have been impressed by the way we have managed to reflect the particular approach to practice assessment at each University.

A number of the delegates have discussed their concerns with respect to an online system. They have expressed concerns about signatures and they have been reassured that every decision in the portfolio is date stamped and linked back to a specific user name and password, arguably making it more secure than paper. Some delegates have wondered about whether they will need to supply their students with devices and have pleased to hear that this was not required at any of the Universities we work with. Others have wondered about the challenges of Hospital firewalls and pleased to hear that this has always been overcome.

Surrey University Students complete first year

axia_digital_web_graphic_10

The first group of students to use the online Surrey Practice Learning Platform to have their practice experience assessed, have just completed the first year.

The students were on the Paramedic and Child Nursing courses and have been used to trial the system. It has been a successful experience for the students, their mentors and students with the quality of the student reflections and the feedback from mentors improving. They have mirrored the experience of our other sites where through using an electronic assessment tool, students tend to be more reflective and the feedback their mentors provide to them has a sharper focus.

As a result next year students on the Midwifery and the Operating Department Practitioners courses will also be using the Surrey PLP as well as students on all other Nursing programmes.

ACCA PER log successfully implemented

Now that the first quarter of the new Professional Experience Tool that we developed with and for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has passed, it is time to reflect on a successful implementation.

The tool is used by 600,000 trainee accountants located across the world who capture evidence of their professional experience alongside the passing of examinations. Consequently our NOW.net platform was subject to rigorous testing in advance of the site being launched in February. It flew through these tests and once it became live it has maintained an enviable high performance in relation to up time and speeds. Only the great firewall of China caused us a temporary headache.

This makes it one of the largest scale projects anywhere in the world where the e-assessment of skills is carried out by one organisation fully online.

Launch of our first Online/Offline Application

On June 7th our customer of long standing the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) launched their new application version of CPDnow the site we developed them which supports all their CPD and accreditation activities. The application enables members to capture their Plans and Evidence Offline and then they sync back to their portfolio when they are back online. We expect the App to be launched on the Google Play store in the next few weeks and we will then be creating an Apple iOS version shortly after that.

You can see Louise Coleman from SCoR and our Customer Services Director Chris Peat talking about it at the UK Radiology Conference here.

The application functionality has been developed in such a way that it can be applied to our other sites without compromising on our core design approach which is to able to reflect the assessment methodology of each institution with whom we work. In other words we have created an application but not one that only works in a certain way.

Rapid expansion of e-assessment of Health Skills

The number of pre-qualification Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health and Care Professional courses we are supporting, through providing an e-portfolio, is increasing both in the range of professions and the numbers of each of the sites.

We started at the Universities of Southampton and Bournemouth supporting all branches of nursing courses and midwifery and now this has been expanded to include Occupational Therapists; Physiotherapists; Podiatrists and Social Workers. To these have now been added at the University of Surrey Paramedics for whom we have developed some new functionality.

Paramedics and their supervisors, often find themselves adding content to the portfolio together in the back of an ambulance. We have created the ability for them to use the same device, with the screen being switched from the student to the practice educator’s view with the use of a PIN.

All these courses mean more and more users and there are now more than 15,000 students, practice educators and tutors using these sites.

Our unique offer lies in our ability to deliver to our customers exactly what they require. We do not have products but instead a platform which we can use to mirror our customer processes. None of our customers need to change what they do to fit into our system, our system is flexible enough to reflect what they currently do and enhance the user’s experience.

Since 1997 AXIA Digital has been helping organisations capture and assess skills and competencies that are demonstrated in a professional setting or in the workplace. We create leading edge digital solutions, which mirror and then enhance existing assessment systems. Our solutions are all individually hand crafted but are deployed on the same platform.
