Our Partnership with RPS

Our collaboration with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) exemplifies a true partnership built on trust and shared goals. We provide RPS’s e-portfolio system, which is an integral part of their membership services. This e-portfolio was carefully developed to support members throughout key professional milestones such as Revalidation, Foundation Training, and Credentialing.

Designed as a lifelong learning tool, the e-portfolio empowers members to:

  • Seamlessly record evidence of their practice as they advance in their careers
  • Identify both strengths and areas where further development is needed
  • Evaluate their professional practice against established frameworks and curricula
  • Strategically plan and focus on their ongoing personal and professional growth

The system features multiple tailored pathways which guide members through their professional development journeys. Whether members are just starting out or are experienced professionals seeking credentialing, the RPS e-portfolio supports them every step of the way, helping them prepare for assessments, demonstrate competencies, and maintain the high standards expected in the pharmacy profession. More information about the RPS E-portfolio can be found here.

Enhancements and Improvements

By continuously evolving the system in collaboration with RPS, we ensure that the e-portfolio remains user-friendly, relevant, and aligned with the changing needs of pharmaceutical professionals. In 2024, the system was updated with several enhancements and improvements, including Accreditation of Prior Certified Learning, Patient / Carer surveys, and Prescribing summaries. More details about the recent enhancements can be found here.

Collaborative Work for NHS England

Axia Digital and RPS worked together to deliver the Trainee Pharmacist Foundation Year e-portfolio for NHS England. This digital solution enables trainee pharmacists to efficiently capture and document their foundation year experiences using a series of online tools, all designed to support trainees in demonstrating their progress and meeting programme requirements. The e-portfolio plays a vital role in guiding trainees through their professional development during this critical first year, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future roles in pharmacy practice.

More information about the the Trainee Pharmacist Foundation Year e-portfolio can be found here. There are also a series of webinars available on the RPS website demonstrating how to use the E-portfolio, the first of which can be found below:

The Customer’s Point of View

Calvin Smith, Head of Business Development at RPS said:

“We’ve been working with Axia for the past 2 years to develop a new suite of e-portfolio programmes for pharmacists’ post-graduate education, and we couldn’t be happier with their work in that time. Far too often we’ve thrown under-defined requirements and difficult timelines at the team, and they have never failed to steer us in the right direction to create user-friendly solutions that fully deliver on our requirements – on time and within budget. Their extensive experience and technical capability means that they’ve been able to work collaboratively with us to add significant value to our education offering and vastly improve on our initial plans. They’ve helped us to build an industry-leading platform which is an immeasurable step up from the systems that we used to have in place.

Not only has this improved the overall value proposition of our core offering (membership), but it has also helped us generate direct revenue through third party commissions to create innovative new features and programmes within our portfolio environment for use by their learners. This success has led to the adoption of our platform by governmental health education commissioning bodies for a variety of national training programmes across the UK, spanning different career stages for pharmacists.

They’re always cheerful and easy to work with, and they’re totally focused on delivering long term value for their customers – we can’t deliver on our goals without them!”

Supporting Sustainable Pharmacy Practice

In addition to the previously mentioned solutions, Axia also developed the Greener Pharmacy Toolkit in collaboration with RPS. This innovative online system supports pharmacy professionals in reducing their environmental impact by providing practical tools, resources, and guidance tailored specifically to pharmacy settings.

The Toolkit empowers users to assess their current practices, identify areas for improvement, and implement sustainable changes that contribute to a greener healthcare sector. By integrating easy-to-use self-assessment tools and actionable steps, it helps pharmacists and their teams take measurable actions toward sustainability while maintaining high standards of patient care.

Minna Eii, RPS lead on the Greener Pharmacy Toolkit commented:

“This pioneering resource is the first-ever toolkit to help pharmacy teams reduce their carbon footprint and a real step forward in using technology to improve practice and patient care. It’s backed by a wealth of expertise and the stages of accreditation make it the ideal starting point for those who want to reduce their environmental impacts but don’t know where to start, as well as driving improvements for teams already on that journey.”

Professor Claire Anderson, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society also commented on the toolkit, stating:

“This free to access and easy to use toolkit will help hospital and community pharmacies across the country to promote sustainable practice and reduce their environmental impact. It’s another step in our strong commitment to enabling more sustainable pharmacy services.”

Through this digital solution, RPS continues to lead the way in promoting environmental responsibility within the pharmacy profession, with Axia Digital helping to deliver a user-friendly and impactful resource that supports this vital goal. More information about the launch of the Greener Pharmacy Toolkit can be found here, and guidance on how to use the toolkit can be found on the RPS website.
