The Brookes electronic Practice Assessment Document

Oxford Brookes is one of the leading Universities for the training and assessment of nurses in the UK. They commissioned us to create the Brookes electronic Practice Assessment Document (BePAD), which is used to record Nursing and Paramedic students’ journeys through their practice placements.

BePAD enables students and their supervisors / practice assessors to gather and record evidence of learning, achievements, progression points, and attainment of practice learning outcomes throughout their programme of study. The portfolio is also used by students on the Nursing Associate programme. This project allowed us to utilise the strengths of our core platform to control permissions and assign different users to different roles depending on which group / cohort they belong to.

E-portfolio Presentation by Hayley Lawson-Wood

Hayley Lawson-Wood, Lecturer in Children’s Nursing at Oxford Brookes University gave a presentation at an International Nursing conference on how the use of e-portfolios enabled them to overcome the assessment challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The presentation was entitled ‘Developing an e-portfolio and overcoming the challenges of Programme changes 2018-2021’ and detailed the positives of switching from a paper-based portfolio to a digital one, stating that BePAD “allowed students and practice partners to be flexible when documenting progress” and “allowed continued support of students from all necessary members of the team no matter what changes are needed”.
